Funeral Providers
Overview
The Commission administers the Pre-arranged Funeral Services Act through regulation, oversight and licensing of all funeral homes and funeral home managers in New Brunswick that provide pre-arranged funerals.
Consumer Protection
We license funeral homes and managers and set rules for trust deposits and contracts. Funeral homes offering pre-arranged services must follow the Pre-arranged Funeral Services Act.
In New Brunswick, you can plan and pay for your own funeral or cremation ahead of time by signing a contract with a funeral home. The money you pay is kept in a trust account until the services are needed. To protect you and your money, the Commission makes sure these contracts follow the law, that funeral homes and their managers are properly licensed, and that they comply with the Pre-arranged Funeral Services Act.
What we can do:
- license funeral homes and managers
- provide compliance and oversight of licensees
- set rules for pre-arranged funeral contracts
- enforce cancellation rights on pre-arrange funeral agreements
- set rules for trust deposits
What we cannot do:
- regulate funeral plans purchased through contracts for insurance or services offered at a cemetery
- provide legal or financial advice
- recommend or endorse any funeral products or services
