Overview

The real estate industry in New Brunswick is co-regulated by the Commission and the New Brunswick Real Estate Association (NBREA). We ensure real estate professionals are licensed and comply with the Real Estate Agents Act.

Consumer Protection

All real estate agents and salespeople operating in New Brunswick must be licensed with the Commission and be members of the New Brunswick Real Estate Association (NBREA). To be a member of the NBREA, real estate salespeople must meet education requirements and follow The REALTOR® Code of Ethics set by the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA).

Before working with a real estate professional, check if they are licensed with the Commission.

What we can do:

  • license and regulate agents, managers, and salespeople
  • oversee business practices of real estate professionals
  • investigate complaints under the Real Estate Agents Act
  • take enforcement action when the law is broken

What we cannot do:

  • set commission fees or home prices
  • provide advice or answer questions about the contents of Purchase and Sale Agreements or house inspections (contact the NBREA)
  • handle complaints about professional service quality or ethics
